Botanical Cannabis Terpenes BDT

All Terpenes have a source, or a derivation. The cheapest and most common is Botanically Derived Terpenes, BDT. Derived from fruits and flowers, they isolate monoterpenes individually and blend them in ratios to recreate a Terpene Profile. Great to minimise costs… But Cannabis contains over 200 monoterpenes and other minor compounds – Botanicals rarely exceed 30. Furthermore, it’s impossible to know if the terpenes were indeed isolated from Botanical sources, or if they were synthetically produced. We don’t recommend botanicals. They’re old hat, and everyone uses them. Time to differentiate.

Hemp Derived Terpenes HDT

Hemp Derived Terpenes are next in line; Hemp is Cannabis, but low in THC. Historically bred for fibre, today Hemp is grown to produce ‘CBD Weed’. Either way, the genetic lineage of Hemp strains isn’t the same as Cannabis. The only downside is that Hemp Terpenes are very high in Beta-Myrcene. This gives many of them a similar ‘base’ smell; not all, but many HDT’s are known for this. Too much, and the product will taste ‘Hempy’. However when done right, they can be a viable, cheaper alternative to CDT’s. They cost more than Botanicals, but less than Canna Derived Terpenes.

Cannabis Derived Terpenes CDT

Lastly the cream of the crop, Canna Derived Terpenes are what they say on the tin. The strongest most potent pungent flowers, grown under the Sun organically, extracted and refined down into their pure essence. The Terpene faction within Cannabis essential Oil is the smallest, rarest faction. We rarely exceed a yield of over 2%. This makes production of CDT’s very costly, as all other parts of the plant are destroyed in this process. 3 – 6 months of growing to discard 98% of the biomass.
