This model is our flagship WV-Ra-480, which was designed to match the market leaders in technology and performance, whilst not ripping our customers off. None of the ‘top’ grow light manufacturers produce anything that can’t be made at home. So why should they be able to charge 3 times their cost? This makes growing less accessible to the masses, and / or forces people to use inferior tech. Such as the power hungry, inefficient HPS ballasts that are still dominating the industry. These increase your energy bills, as well as lowering your yields and flower quality.

We researched every facet of what makes the best grow lights, and how they differ from the many Amazon counterfeits or old tech. We compiled the following requirements that a light must have if one is to claim they are using the best tech available:

  • Must use ORIGINAL Samsung LM301H Diodes, preferably top bin* (the WVRA-480 model boasts top bins only).
  • Must also utilise diodes of different Wavelengths of PAR, such as UV and IR. We use two types of each, made by Epistar, a market leader.
  • Must use a high end Driver, preferably original MeanWell, which is the go to for light manufacturers.

Theory

The need to use LM301H diodes is due to their unmatched performance vs PAR ratings, translated to the UMOL/J metric. This measures how much energy the diodes use, vs the amount of light radiation emitted. With a umol/j rating of 3.1, no other diode can provide the amount of usable, sun-like, full spectrum lighting, all while using the absolute minimum amount of electricity. For comparison, the best HPS ballasts (which are still used by the majority of indoor growers) only average 1.3 umol/j.

The addition of UV and IR diodes on the board is said to provide the plants with extra radiation, sometimes outside of the PAR range. They are speculated to be able to increase resin production, Terpene production etc. There is currently not much research on this topic, but the results you get more than speak for themselves. They clearly take plants to their genetic limits.

Furthermore, the need for a high end driver stems from our goal of minimal energy costs. The MeanWell brand has built an excellent reputation for quality. HLG, Spider Farmer, Lumatek, the list goes on. Those regarded as the best in the industry all use MeanWell drivers, so we do too. MeanWell’s 6 year warranty on their drivers show how confident they are on their ability to provide high end goods that do not fail.
